Overlaying color is a great method for making any design look incredibly clean and polished. When overlaying color, you can choose the color for the background or the fill color and use transparency to blend them together. Using a color picker, choose a color for the background, then create a new layer and apply a color fill. Choose a color for the fill and either use the color picker or the eyedropper tool to fill the selection with the color you chose.

You can also use a color from an existing photo in your library. To remove the color effect, click the Color Overlay icon again and click Clear.

To apply multiple color overlays, simply click the Color Overlay icon again to reveal the Color Overlay dialog and select a new color for each desired effect.
To add color overlays, click the Color Overlay icon in the toolbar or menu to open the Color Overlay dialog. Just click the desired color for each color layer you’d like to add. The color will automatically be applied to the currently selected shape or symbol, and the appearance will be displayed in the color preview section. If you’d like to edit the color, click the color swatch to open the color picker. If you want to remove the color overlay, click the color swatch again to return to the default color.
The Color Overlay effect is not available for shape layers.
To create a color overlay effect on a shape layer, first create a shape layer via the menu. A shape layer allows you to create a new shape or edit an existing one. Then, click the color palette in the Layers panel to open the color picker. Choose the color you'd like to apply and click the Apply to Shape button to apply the color to the shape. Note: The color you choose must be a fill color; you can't apply a color to the stroke.
